We are a week into Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but it also is the start of #Pinktober. I have made it a point over the past 2 years to spread awareness and remind everyone to #feelitonthefirst, do your self-exam and schedule your annual mammogram, but now it’s my chance to educate you on what “Pinkwashing” is.

The term #pinkwashing came to be as more, and more companies have started marketing their products by changing their packaging to pink, claiming to support our cause, but their products still contain cancer-causing chemicals, and little to none of the profit from their products goes towards actual breast cancer research.

What can YOU do to help? 🤷🏻‍♀️

❤️Research the company you purchase from and find out how much they ACTUALLY donate to breast cancer research.

  • Did you know that Susan G. Komen's net assets in 2020 were $137,262,878 yet their grants to patients were $700,700, which comes out to roughly 0.5%?

❤️Donate directly to organizations supporting breast cancer research, including metastatic/Stage 4 research.

❤️Do something on your own to help raise awareness of the need to help serve underserved communities like the younger populations (breast cancer has no age limit) or those living with Stage 4/ metastatic breast cancer.

  • If you have a PINK OUT DAY/NIGHT at your school or company and encourage people who wear pink to make a donation that will go towards one of the organizations above.

Yes, it’s wonderful to say you support breast cancer awareness, but it’s not one month a year for those of us who have been affected by it; it’s every day. Please consider where your money is spent purchasing those “pink” items.
