This time 2 years ago, I was getting ready for the biggest surgery of my life. My bilateral mastectomy was the first step in my battle with breast cancer. What was I going to need? What would be helpful in my healing process at home? What would make life easier for me? I hunted and hunted and found lots of personal blog posts from women who wrote about what worked for them, and I took notes. I started with the simplest things or the things that were commonly listed items across multiple posts. When the day came, I felt like I was prepared. When all was said and done and my big day rolled around, I felt prepared and wasn't worried that I wasn't missing anything.
Because I felt SO PREPARED, I wanted to put together something I could share with other women who were anxious about being prepared for their upcoming surgery. I created my "Preparing for Mastectomy Surgery, Recovery & Beyond" document, and have shared it on the RESOURCES & FUN STUFF page of my site . This is not a one-size fits all document, but things that I felt were helpful to me and resources that I found that I liked.
I also have shared my medication tracking sheet that my husband and I created, as well as a suggestion for a living and growing medical history document that you keep updated and take with you to every appointment but most importantly to NEW patient appointments, so you have all of your information in ONE spot. Believe me, you will not regret it, and your care team will thank you for your organization.
