Sometimes you have to be proactive vs. reactive. In my case, I am trying my hardest to be proactive when it comes to my health and do what I can do to prevent a recurrence and the possibility of hearing someone say the "C" word to me again. I know that there are no guarantees but I can at least try and do what I can do.
After being monitored for the past 5 months by my OB I recently had some issues that made us realize it was time to be proactive so I will be having a hysterectomy which will also include removing my ovaries and fallopian tubes at the end of April. Because my breast cancer was estrogen fed, this will help reduce the amount of estrogen that is in my body preventing any "floater" cancer cells to benefit from it. I'm not thrilled about such a major surgery and the associated recovery time but this is something that I can control for myself, for Tim & the boys, and for the rest of my family. And, I'd rather do something now as opposed to end up in the ER having emergency surgery due to things getting out of hand.
With the procedure will come a medically induced menopause and changes to my medication. I've already been contacted by my Oncologist, been told what the plan is, my prescription has already been called in and picked up, and my next appointment with her that was scheduled for September has been bumped up for closer monitoring. During that appointment, unless I can't tolerate the new medication, I will have a baseline bone density scan done because that will be something that is carefully watched from now on.
Now we just wait. I have a few Drs appointments in the next few weeks prior to my surgery along with ANOTHER COVID test as part of the pre-op protocol and as long as things are status quo, we will be a go for 4/27.
That's all for now! Baseball has started so I'm getting in as many games as I can before I am stuck at home recouperating.
P.S. Today, Tim & I got our 2nd COVID vaccine too which is such a relief. We have been so diligent about things for the past year and it has been worth it but this will make such a difference! Now we just have to get BOTH boys vaccinated so pray that Pfizer is granted the EUA so that Mason will qualify as soon as he turns 15.
